Review – Friend Request

Based on the tagline of Evil Is Trending, Friend Request left a lot to be desired.

Friend Request shows the ramifications of what happens when Laura accepts a friend request from the lonely girl on campus, Marina Mills.

What follows is a story of obsession as Marina wants Laura all to herself, after a fight viewers discover Marina has trichotillomania. From there the film turns into something completely different and loses it’s footing.

What starts off as a Single White Female type film slowly turns into a more modern Ring wannabe. The setting worked for the second half of the film, but the story was lackluster and really had me struggling to finish it.

With the popularity of social media I expect to see more films in this vein. I will say so far Unfriended and Tragedy Girls are the two films who have succeeded at using social media or elements of as part of the plot, while Friend Request just fell really short of the bar. Believe me when I say this is one Friend Request you don’t want to accept.
