Review – Terrifier

This week East Coast Horror Group writer Adam Holtzapfel had a chance to check out the latest killer clown flick, Terrifier!

Going into this film my expectations were set very low due to the hype I was seeing and recent clown flicks 31 and Gags (someone needs to tack a few hours back onto my life after suffering through those). Terrifier pleasantly surprised me and definitely should be in any horror fans collection.

Clocking in 82 minutes the film begins a year after the Miles County Massacre. We see Dawn (Catherine Corcoran) and Tara (Jenna Kannell) leaving a party as they argue over who’s sober enough to drive Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) approaches.

From there Tara decides she needs some food before she can drive, which leads to Art following them and a funny take on selfie culture. This sets it up for a ride viewers are not prepared for.

Art and Dawn seeing how many likes they can get.

While this has a classic slasher feel I]m glad it’s set in present day instead of the 80’s. What works for this is the story, FX, production, and sound. Peppered with dark humor it hits the right notes with the audience. Thornton as Art sells the role purely through expression, which adds to the creep factor. As of right now Terrifier boasts the best kill scene of 2018.

Art is overcome with joy.

You can order your copy of Terrifier here. If you want to terrify the coulrophobe in your life pair this with Killer Klowns From Outer Space and Circus of the Dead for a triple feature from hell.
