Review – Creep Van

This week ECHG writer Adam Holtzapfel takes a look at the 2012 film Creep Van.

I stumbled across this film when my wife and I were browsing a sale at our local video store and she decided to purchase it. I had very low expectations going into it including making fun of the title with quips of what’s the sequel called, Soccer Mom Van? To say I was pleasantly surprised by this film would be an understatement.

The film follows the story of Campbell (Brian Kolodziej) a down on his luck car wash employee in Detroit and his hunt for a car.

While at his job we’re introduced to characters like Amy (the woman of his dreams), Mr. Kaufman (his boss), Swami Ted (the con man), and Lloyd Kaufman as a disgruntled customer.

Campbell tires of riding the bus and it making him late to work that he calls about a 1970’s style van for sale. Once the owner calls him back he says he’s not interested, yet the owner insists on hounding him for money for the van. In between all of this we see some great death scenes, the cops on the hunt for the killer, and what makes Swami Ted a con man.

While the film is full of bad acting, it’s still a fun watch. Full of inventive death scenes, nudity, missing drugs, and more makes it a ride for the audience to enjoy. Visually the film looks good, has great fx, and sound.

This is the perfect film for those nights you can’t decide on what to watch make it a double feature with Blood Car for a night of goofy plot driven horror films.

  1. Hi Adam,

I just stumbled upon your review for our film Creep Van.

I was a bit surprised that someone is reviewing our 2012 film in 2018…but better late than never!
It appears from your review that you DID basically get what we were going for with the film. It’s disappointing (and quite amusing) how many people completely — or at least mostly– missed what the films origins and trajectory were really aiming for.

    Thanks for the review.
We are in the early stages of our next project– BOIL– which is an ACTION THRILLER set and shot in Detroit with a MUCH bigger budget and a MUCH bigger (recognizable) cast.

IF (and its still a BIG IF) we get the money raised, I would be happy to invite you to Detroit and have you get some exclusive, BTS stuff…maybe we can even throw you in the film somewhere…?! (But please refer to my last us of the word IF, in the previous sentence.)

If you are interested, please send me an email and again, its all predicated on raising the money.
One thing is for certain, BOIL will be a MUCH MUCH better, much bigger and much more ambitious film then our fun little Creep Van was.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Scott,

Thanks for the kind words on the review. My wife picked the film out when our local video store was closing, it surpassed my expectations. I’m definitely interested. I’ll email you later this week.

  2. Adam, keep up the great reviews!
