Reviews From The Crypt – Naked Amazon

This week ECHG writer Adam Holtzapfel takes us back to 1955 for a look at Naked Amazon.

Directed by Zygmunt Sulistrowski and written by Richard Olizar, Naked Amazon follows an expedition into the “green inferno” of Brazil.

Filmed documentary style regardless if it’s meant to be one or not, the film kicks off at the carnival in Rio and runs for 69 minutes.

Authentic primitive nudism, what more could you ask for in the 50’s?

While the film is slow and really not worth watching as it seems almost like a tourism video for the jungle, you can see how it influenced films like Mondo Cane, Cannibal Holocaust, and various other primitive cannibal flicks.

This definitely gets an F in my book. The only real action is a couple of animals being killed and no one needs to see that. The title leads you to believe it is a prison movie since it was included on the White Slave Collection set along with White Slave and Sacrifice of the White Goddess, which you guessed it are two more cannibal flicks. If you insist on seeing it pair it with the previously mentioned and far superior Mondo Cane, Cannibal Holocaust, and Cannibal Ferox (aka Make Them Die Slowly).
