Day 11 brought the oddest pairing for the month. Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil and Burial Ground. Tucker & Dale is a tour deforce of comedy mixed with good fx and a story of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Burial Ground is the complete opposite, this Italian zombie flick features some good gore, an off the wall story, a 26 year old little person playing a child, and some “quality family time”.
Day 12 brought more nostalgia with the selection being The Monster Squad, The Adventures Of Ichabod & Mr.Toad, and recent fare Paranorman. Nothing needs said about these as most people are familiar with them.
Day 13 was all about dangertainment and Busta Rhymes with Halloween: Resurrection being the pick of the night. This was a first time watch for me and honestly, it’s not that bad of a film. It’s meant to be more tongue in cheek than your typical installments in the franchise.
Day 14 brought forth The Dead and Monster High. The Dead is hands down the best zombie film in the last 10 years. What works is the setting, taking place in Africa plays to the audience that has seen every type of zombie film out there. This was a breath of fresh air into a stale rotting subgenre. Monster High, I didn’t make it 10 minutes in, skip this 80’s flick.
Day 15 was the underrated thriller and Clint Eastwood’s first feature behind the camera, Play Misty For Me. Starring Eastwood with Jessica Walter this film follows the story of a DJ stalked by an obsessive fan.You can also see that this film heavily influenced Fatal Attraction.
Day 16 I lucked out and got passes to an early screening of the new Halloween flick. I didn’t love this flick and I didn’t hate it. It killed at the box office, which is a good thing for horror. It was one of the better entries in the franchise, I’d definitely recommend catching it if you haven’t yet.
Day 17 is Brian De Palma’s Blow Out. This is another underrated film. Five years after the release of Carrie fans see De Palma team back up with John Travolta and Nancy Allen to tell the story of a sound recordist who records the evidence of a murder.
Day 18 was Halloween H2O. The setting for this film worked and LL Cool J writing an adult novel was funny, other than that it’s your typical franchise slasher.
Day 19 kicked off the start of The Haunting Of Hill House, more about that later.
Day 20 is hands down my favorite John Carpenter film, In The Mouth Of Madness. This is Carpenter at his best and a must own for any fan.
Day 21 The Haunting Of Hill House continues, but with Friday The 13th, and It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. A pretty standard day for Halloween fare.
