Chicago punk outfit Evil Engine is back with #2 the follow up to 2016’s Nullius In Verba.
by Adam Holtzapfel
#2 delivers 5 tracks of break neck punk fury clocking in at around 16 minutes. Fronted by Kryssie Crisis with Jamie Booth bringing face melting riffs, Mike Skull on the low end, and Colin Holmes holding the beat, this shows the band keeping to their original sound while tightening it up some.
Kicking off with the “Suffer” style Upstanding Citizen, Evil Engine knocks the door off the hinges and let’s you know they’re not taking any prisoners. Sink and Drown feels like it has the potential to be a single, with lyrics like “The people are fucked, our greatest achievement is to get rid of us” it’s something a lot of people can relate to in today’s climate.
While the songs deal with social issues, fighting tyranny and war (Get The Gun, Upstanding Citizen, POW) it’s something that’s been missing from modern punk rock for a while.
My favorite tracks from this release are Upstanding Citizen, Sink and Drown, & Prisoner of War.
This is a must own for fans of Bad Religion, Stiff Little Finger, Civet, & Anthrax.
Be sure to catch Evil Engine live and grab some music and merch on their bandcamp page.
