Amazon Prime Picks

As many of you know, I am a fan of Amazon Prime video selections. Let’s take a look at what I’ve been watching.

Here’s a list of my picks:

F/X (1986)

This movie holds up in a post-practical effects world. Now, he seems more like a modern day magician, but the action is solid for a modestly budgeted film of the mid-80’s. Could have been a much bigger movie, but at the time, people were not as familiar with the abbreviation F/X as modern moviegoers are with CGI. Fun and fast paced with engaging characters. Brian Dennehy’s cop Leo is so of the time, it practically is satire. 9/10 https://amzn.to/2IdSK3x

It (2017)

I finally read the novel this year, so revisited this excellent adaptation. It’s no slave to the source material, but the changes assist in the pacing and cuts away the fat from King’s bloated opus. The largely unknown young casts draw the eye and fill King’s wonderful characters with beating hearts. A wildly entertaining monster movie. 9/10 https://amzn.to/3p5ZzoC

It: Chapter Two (2019)

I may be one of the few that actually likes this film as much or more than the first. I really like the movement back and forth from childhood and adult ages. Actually, the “stars” distract a little from the movie with grown up Eddie (James Ransone) doing an amazing job matching his younger counterparts work along with the character King created. Incredible work; and yes, it improves on King’s silly ending to the novel. 9/10 https://amzn.to/3lon1vf

The Mortuary Collection (2020)

Good genre mix of horror elements in this anthology. Clancy Brown is a strong central presence and there are enough twists to make this a fun, fast paced flick. 7/10 https://amzn.to/3pbW1RF

Epic Home Haunts (2018)

Probably a bit longer than it needed to be and didn’t show the haunts themselves enough for my liking, but a deep dive into those that create these fascinating attractions. Good background noise if nothing else. 7/10 https://amzn.to/3keL9yO
