Amazon Prime picks: Disney Suds and Duds

Amazon Prime Picks

As many of you know, I am a fan of Amazon Prime video selections. Let’s take a look at what I’ve been watching. They aren’t all great….

Here’s a list of my picks:

The Monkey’s Uncle

So much sugar, you won’t be able to choke it down. Watch the original Merlin Jones feature and skip this nonsense right after the Beach Boys opening with Annette. Bleech! 2/10 https://amzn.to/2UyFtVS

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Better than I remember. A great deal of the comedy is actually Matt Frewer, not Rick Moranis, who plays his role as straight as you can with a stereotypical absent minded professor. This is not to belittle Moranis’s work (pun intended), but the majority of the fun in this movie actually comes from the “kids.” Family fare to be sure. Fun fact: This movie was actually developed by the producer and director of “Reanimator”: Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon. 8/10 https://amzn.to/2IIQiSA

Honey, I Blew Up the Kid

A sequel that is quite a step down from the original. It increases Moranis’s screen time, but that’s all I can say nice about it. It really is a mess and a lot of that blame should go to losing Matt Frewer as the neighbor and most of the kids, and throwing a very adult performance from John Shea in it’s place. This tonal displacement and “raising of stakes” doomed the entire proceedings. 5/10 https://amzn.to/35FkEPf
