This week in the crypt we take a look at The Stylist, the feature length from Jill Gevargizian based on her 2016 short.
The Stylist will hit Arrow Player in the US and UK on March 1st.
The Stylist follows the story of Claire (Najarra Townsend) a lonely hair professional who becomes obsessed with the lives of her clients while wishing to escape her own life.
Clocking in at close to 1 hour and 45 minutes The Stylist takes viewers on a slow journey to madness.
While the film feels more classic it does have a modern touch to it. The main cast is rounded out by Brea Grant as Olivia. While having a minor role, Davis DeRock as Charlie stands out and once you see the film you’ll understand why.
I can’t say too much about this film without spoiling it so I’ll just head into the breakdown.
What worked for me was the story, the acting, Jill’s work as a director, and some good gore/fx. The fact that Claire almost had a Leatherface quality to her in the sense that you can sympathize with her also is a strong part of the film.
At times it can feel long but that didn’t make or break the film for me.
