When it comes to movies, I often associate a film with where I saw it. I remember watching that on a VHS from Parkside Video. I remember seeing that at the Budget where my friend Jeff Miller was an usher. That one I saw at Spring Mall when Tom Weber was usher over there. It is just connected. A variety of locations, situations, circumstances.
Not so with novelty albums for me.
Almost every novelty song I’ve ever heard, I heard first on Dr. Demento during the late 70’s and 80’s locally on WRKR. It was on right after Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 and I never really did understand why Casey had the better timeslot. It was tough to stay awake long enough to hear the show, but it was a delightful treat everytime.
This song I recently rediscovered and is exactly the type of song I loved. Clever wordplay layered on a solid musical bed. This song would work simply as a country song, but add on funny lyrics and it is so much fun. It first hit the Doctor as an unreleased tape, but was played on the regular. Actually, maybe it isn’t wordplay…as the Doctor noted, it really is about the placement of a comma. You’ll understand when you listen on the You Tube attached above.
