Sometimes in a novelty record, it is the oddest thing that hits you. In Rock ‘n’ Roll Doctor, it certainly isn’t the melody. It doesn’t have one. It isn’t like “Weird” Al songs where you sit back in wonder at how spectacularly accurate the parody sounds like the original. That’s because this song, or record more accurately, is completely original.
For me, it is something about how that key phrase “Rock ‘n’ Roll Doctor; you’re on the air” is said. You hear it over and over and it is my favorite phrase. With the dawn of Caller ID, I often will answer with “Rock ‘n’ Roll Doctor; you’re on the air”…particularly with those I know have no chance of ever having heard the original.
I do that so I can ask them if they know what it is from and I send them this link. I just love this record so much! Hopefully, you give it a listen and love it as well.
